I had not played DDO in awhile and seeing how the system works has made me think about a few things.
Brokers:
I pulled a body feeder on level one characters - and then a Slowburst Great Club, a Seeker Kopesh, and a Crippling Battle Axe.
Van pulled a +3 Docent in a Harbor Quest.
My initial feeling is that maybe the Pawn Shops are not needed.
Hirelings -
Van and I used a Level One Cleric in our runs. He was useful and I think he healed me once but I wasn't really in danger. I'm wondering if this would work out that if a hireling DIES in quest that they would never be available to your character and maybe your alternates. Word gets round that you are not a good employer! However, he did a stellar job in Redemption on Elite. We could not have done that quest without him healing Lars Heyton. Two Level 1's can't do enough damage on elite against the mobs.
Perhaps allowing Hirelings only when soloing or on the Elite setting would be better for play balance.
Potions:
I needed a CLW and found one in a barrel on the first quest...whew.
Then I did buy a few potions and honestly didn't take any damage that I needed them. I can see how quests in the Harbor though will require some form of resistance from energy. The rub is that LVL 2 hard quests are level three and a lvl three character may only hire a Lvl 2 cleric.
Quest Setting:
Having pretty much blown through with two players and a hireling on elite I am thinking that opening on Hard or Elite be "required" if a "GROUP" has that option available.
More to follow
